Summer League 2008

ONCE AGAIN we are inviting teams of 9 players to enter the Summer League.  The format will be much the same as in recent years (see below for what happened in 2007).

When you have gathered your team (don't forget to allow for some to be on holiday so you might need to be able to call on about 15 or more players) contact us and let us know:

• the name of the team, and

• names and contact details of two people responsible to running the team

We experimented a few years ago with teams of 9 players, in three legs of 3 each playing 8 hands.   Three from each team took it in turns to play against each other, and then another three from each team played against each other until all had played.

This format was successful and we are repeating it again this year.  There are 11 teams in this season's competition.  Click on the name of your favourite team to see its fixture list.

The teams are placed in one division.   The first game is on Monday 4 June and the other games are played on the Mondays, Tuesdays and  Wednesdays plus one Thursday following until 22 August.  All games are played at the Tewkesbury Road Clubhouse and start at 20:00.

Each team is required to raise £13.50 at each game (£1.50 a player).  £12 are to be given to the sticker and £15 are placed with the scorecard behind the bar.

The Final game is between the two teams that finish highest in the league table   This is to be played on Friday, 7 September 2007.

On the same night the bottom-placed team will be awarded the Wooden Spoon.

 

Note: Since 1 May 2007 smoking is prohibited inside the building.  Smokers are welcome to go outside to the patio and field but please be sure to be back in time for your turn.
