REPORT TO CACSSA AGM 6 June 2011
THE SKITTLES CLUB
MEMBERSHIP
327 players have participated since the last report (132 in the 2010 Summer League and 260 in the2010-11 Winter competitions), an increase of 52 over last year, partly due to more teams playing in the Summer League. Efforts continue to attract more people, particularly for the Winter competitions.SUMMER LEAGUE 2009
8 teams played in the Summer competition - 2 more than in 2009. Over the Odds not only retained the League title but also beat Hustlers in the Play-off to claim the Championship. Awards on Finals Night were presented by Lindsay McKenna (CACSSA Membership Secretary).AGMs
There have been two A.G.Ms in the past year, a decision having been taken at the 2010 meeting to advance the date of future AGMs to as soon as possible after the end of the Winter Season. Items from the 2010 AGM have been reported in CACSSA Executive Committee. The 2011 meeting was held on 24th May, when the main decisions were:
(i) acceptance of a revised Constitution (mainly clearer definitions and some procedural matters);
(ii) a determination to continue with the 12-a-side game at least for another year;
(iii) to make more effort to get information into GCHQ.
The Chairman informed the meeting that he would stand down in 2012.‘SPECIAL’ COMPETITIONS
- CHAIRMAN’s (John Christie) CUP: Muffin Men (Double Champions) beat Strongbows (League qualifiers) in this game played under Front-pin Rules.
- SINGLES CHAMPION: Stewart Wilsdon achieved the remarkable feat of winning both our competitions for individuals - the
TONY CLAY MEMORIAL SHIELD (played underFront-pin Rules) and thePLAYER-of-the-YEAR trophy (played under normal rules).- MIXED-PAIRS: Unfortunately not enough entries were received to make this a viable competition, as arranged in March, but it is planned to hold it later in the year.
- REGIONAL COMPETITION: One team went to Bristol but, as last year, failed to qualify for the national Finals by losing just 1 game.
WINTER COMPETITIONS (League and ‘Shield’)
Ten teams competed during the season, with Muffin Men retaining the League Championship,winning the President’s Shield and Fiends winning the Wooden Spoon. Tim Masling and Helen Adair won the trophies for best individual averages and Andy Tranter won the Jo Green Memorial Trophy as the Best Young Player. A-Bombs
