April 2005 Newsletter of the Cheltenham Area Civil Service Sports Association

Close to the front entrance of the Tewkesbury Road clubhouse is a tree which has been planted in memory of Geoff Hardy, former chairman of CACSSA and President of the Rugby Club.  The Rugby Club have organised a plaque on a slab of York stone bearing Geoff’s name to be placed beside the tree.  The plaque was officially unveiled during the RFC President's buffet lunch on Saturday 5 March 2005 by his widow, Sue, and his son, Richard.

Pictured above are Terry Cann, President of our Rugby Club, Richard Hardy, Sue Hardy and Malcolm King, chairman of CACSSA.

SMOKING WITHIN THE CACSSA CLUBHOUSE

Smoking is currently allowed in the main public rooms of the CACSSA clubhouse, though not next to any of the bars and a "no smoking" sign is displayed in the upper seating area of the Lounge.  Because of plans to refurbish some parts of the clubhouse and to provide an improved food service in the Lounge, but also with an eye on recent government proposals on smoking in restaurants/pubs/bars which prepare and serve food, the Management Committee is considering whether to make general changes to our current arrangements.  We would welcome your views as a member of CACSSA on what changes, if any, you would like to see - please email these to me at GCHQ,  davidmaconochiegchqgsigovuk ,
or fill in the simple form at the clubhouse, by Saturday 16th April.

Thank you in advance.

David Maconochie,
Vice-chairman

Inter Departmental Cricket is Changing!!!!!!

In an effort to combat fading interest IDC has undergone an overhaul. This year it will be 8-a-side and the matches will be 15 overs a side. This means you can still catch the buh duh da boom bit in Eastenders should you so wish. The games start at six (allegedly) and are held at the excellent facilities at the Civil Service Club, all equipment provided - just bring yourself and a natty pair of trainers.

IDC is still open to everyone at GCHQ, it matters not what size, shape or ability you are, you will find a home for your cricketing ambitions here, so if you want to improve or stagnate or if you just need to get out of the house for a few hours IDC could be the answer.

Would all those interested in putting a team together, or those who are teamless but wish to play please get in contact with Allan Gobey on x33613

For full details regarding any aspect of the club, or if you are interested in playing, you can find all the information and contact numbers on our web page at:
